Auto Insurance at a Low Cost

Getting insured can be quite expensive and when all of the variables are taken into consideration, the price of coverage for certain individuals can become somewhat unaffordable; therefore it is wise to know how to locate the lowest costing policies. A person who has had multiple traffic citations and accidents may find it quite difficult to find auto insurance at a rate that is reasonable, but should be aware of the fact that certain companies specialize in insuring motorists with a not so clean driving record and finding them can save hundreds of dollars a year on coverage.

On the other hand there are individuals who do have a crystal clean driving record and would not benefit from insurers who specialized in drivers with blemishes on their records and may find low cost car insurance elsewhere. There are three types of carriers and markets; preferred, standard and non-standard. A preferred carrier specializes in insuring individuals with less risk of filing a claim and will reward them with cheaper rates, whereas these carriers may not accept the high risk driver or if they do it would be at a very expensive price. Standard insurers are somewhere in the middle of the road; for example if a person has had a not at fault accident and a speeding ticket they may find better rates with standard insurers than preferred. The non-standard carriers specializes in those with high risks associated with covering them; risky motorists are far more likely to find affordable coverage with one of these companies rather than a preferred carrier.

Finding the Right Low Cost Insurance Company
The best way to find out what type of insurer will be the best fit for a particular consumer’s situation is to obtain and compare quotes from multiple insurers based on the desired coverage. Once quotes have been received the consumer should see a big difference in rates from one company to the next; after finding the insurers that can offer the best prices, motorists should take the time to look into the companies and ensure that the quote will be accurate once the policy is underwritten to avoid any future surcharges. Comparison shopping is by far the best way to find affordable auto insurance and it may take a little bit of leg work, but can be well worth it.

When setting out to find low cost policies a person may receive quotes from over twenty different companies so consumers should be careful before going ahead with a purchase or giving personal information to a company if they are quoting an oddly cheap rate or if the motorist is unfamiliar with them. If this happens to be the case it is always wise to check with state insurance regulators to make certain that the company is indeed legit and licensed. State regulators are able to tell residents whether or not a carrier is licensed to sell policies, can give complaint ratios which indicates customer satisfaction and sometimes will provide an insurer’s financial stability to help ensure that a company will be able to honor a claim if one is filed. Understanding how insurers view motorists is important and taking the time to finding the cheapest one can save a lot of money in the long run.

Auto Insurance as a High Risk Driver

A driver who is viewed by insurers as a higher risk to cover can have a more difficult time finding coverage at an affordable rate, but comparison shopping can be the key to reasonable premiums.  Dependent on the reason why a driver may be looked at as riskier to insure can be a number of reasons, but acknowledging them and finding a carrier who is willing to except risks can save thousands of dollars. A common way that a driver can find themselves in the high risk pool is by being convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI); this is a very dangerous practice and statistics show that motorists who have been convicted driving under the influence are likely to receive a second offense.

It is obvious that driving impaired will increase the likelihood of being involved in a traffic accident, but once caught a motorist may be looking for high risk auto insurance, and may have driving privileges suspended and also need to obtain an SR 22 for up to 3 years following the conviction date; this will need to be maintained continuously. In addition, these motorists may find it difficult to find a company willing to accept their risk and if an insurer is found, the cost of coverage can be much more than a low-risk driver. Drinking and driving is simply not worth it, not only because of increased premiums, but it puts the lives of the motorist as well as others in danger.

Reasons High Risk Auto Insurance may be Needed
Motorists can end in the “high risk” pool for various reasons; some can be avoided while others are considered riskier to insure simply because of their age. Motorist who acquire a number of traffic ticket or cause traffic accidents will usually be seen as having elevated risks to insure. Obeying traffic laws and practicing safe driving can help avoid these situations and having to pay inflated premiums. Unfortunately for younger motorists, they are viewed as risky drivers due the statistical data that shows them to be more likely in collisions than older drivers. While this may seem to be a bit unfair and nobody can control their age, it is hard to argue with statistics.

Motorists who are considered to be labeled as a “high risk” can do many things to get out of the category and can take many steps to make sure that they do not end up with the label again. Safe driving and obeying traffic laws will more than likely help avoid accidents and not driving while under the influence will also do the same; after a certain time period of not acquiring tickets and being involved in accidents a motorist will begin to see their rates start to decline. For those who may have a very hard time getting insured due companies denying to accept their risk can get assistance from state programs such as the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association which may be able to help motorists who have been denied by two or more carriers.

Cheap Auto Insurance Companies

When it comes to automobile coverage individuals usually think the cheaper the better and generally they are right. Nobody wants to pay a higher rate for car insurance from one company when the exact same policy could have been obtained elsewhere at a lower price. Fortunately, finding inexpensive carriers can be done with the right approach, although one must remember that “cheap” is a relative term; what may be affordable for one person may not necessarily be seen the same to another.

Individuals who have had a few incidents in the past and have dings on their driving records must understand that their rates may not be cheap, but there is an insurer out there that can offer them the cheapest premium. Motorists who may have a good driving record will probably have a much easier time finding cheap auto insurance companies and obtain an affordable policy with very little effort. Nonetheless, there is a carrier out there for everyone and while some may find it more difficult than others to locate the right one, the only way to go about it is to take the time necessary to do so. In some cases, whether or not an individual is a driver with tickets and accidents, it may not take as much effort as one may think.

Find the Cheapest Car Insurance Company
Generally, consumers already have a number of companies that pop into mind when they think of auto insurance and it is most likely due to the fact that millions of dollars are spent by insurers to advertise and do just that, keep fresh in the minds of consumers. Although, there is a good chance of finding affordable rates with these carriers and they are likely to be a reputable insurer, motorists should search beyond these household names when looking to get insured. Of course, they should not be taken out of the equation when shopping around, but there are many companies that may be able to compete with the bigger names.

A good rule to follow when trying to find the cheapest premiums is to get as many quotes as possible; this highly increases the chance of locating the best deal available. Thankfully this does not have to take much time at all with the help of the Internet. Just about every insurer in the market offers quotations online and certain comparison websites will even bring the various rates of insurers to one place so consumers do not have to visit twenty or thirty websites to compare premiums. Comparison shopping is the best way to find the cheapest rates, but make sure to take advantage of savings where available. The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance recommends that consumers check if they are eligible for discounts before making a purchase; some discounts can yield rate reductions in the 20% range.

Auto Insurance in California

Car insurance in CA can be quite a costly expense, and for individuals who live and drive in highly congested areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco or San Diego, automobile coverage can be almost unaffordable, therefore locating cheap rates can be extremely important for Californians. To find the lowest premiums in the Golden State the best chance a person has is to comparison shop. In fact, when it comes to automobile coverage, practically every consumer guide, industry professional and government website will usually advise consumers to shop around and compare the quotes from as many companies as possible.

The reason that it is so important to compare the multiple
California auto insurance companies is simply because there are so many carriers out there and each will charge a different rate from one another, sometimes they will differ significantly; in order for a driver to find the best price, they have to shop around. Premiums vary based on a number of factors, but especially the motorist. While one company may view a driver as profitable another may see them at a higher risk and may insure them, but at a high cost. For instance, if an insurer has had to pay out large amount for high risk drivers or those who live in certain areas they may raise their rates for such individuals to make up for losses that they may have had to pay out on the behalf of these policyholders.

Shop for California Auto Insurance Online
Just about every single carrier in the Golden State has a website which allows consumers to access and get rate quotes, manage current policies or simply visit to check out products. The California Department of Insurance makes it mandatory that companies maintain a toll-free number and/or a website so that residents have a way to get quotations on premiums. With that being said and more consumers preferring the Internet as a shopping place, more insurers are expanding their business online which makes it much easier to shop for coverage.

The World Wide Web offers consumers an easy and efficient means to obtain and compare auto insurance quotes. Visiting individual company’s websites to find the cheapest coverage can be time consuming since the person would need to input their information over and over on each site; fortunately there is a quicker and simpler method of finding cheap rates by visiting a comparison website which allow their visitors to input their info only one time and once submitted will receive multiple quotes from various insurers to compare from. This process can be done in less than 5 minutes, is free of charge and requires no personal information; consumers may also choose to purchase a policy directly online if they wish.

The insurance companies calculate their price by taking information about where you live, how long you have lived there, how old you are, if you are married.
Do you have young drivers at home, what kind of driving record you have, what kind of car or truck you drive.
The companies find their rates differently. One company might find that you are a rick and therefor change you more than a company that don’t put you in the higher risk category.
This means a company that is the cheapest for one of your friends is probably not be cheapest for you.

Auto insurance quote introduction
Insurance rates have been on the rise for the last couple of years. Even people who have been driving many years with perfect records have been feeling this. The auto insurance companies have making bad investments just like everybody else. Of course they don’t want to pay this loss themselves, so they are forwarding it to the insurance paying public.
Auto insurance is all about risk. The insurance company puts you into to a price group that fits the risk the think you are to them. This risk is determined by many things. Your driving record, your age, where you live, what kind of car you drive, what gender you are. When you buy an insurance policy, you are accepting to pay a small premium to insure you from a possible big loss. The less likely it is that the insurance company will ever have to pay and the less money they would have to pay, the lower your insurance costs will be.

My top ways to get cheaper auto insurance

1. Get multiple quotes
I’m amazed by how many people are just settling for what ever price their insurance gave them. This is the biggest mistake there is. The reason most people do this is because their are lazy and don’t want the spend the time they think it takes to get multiple quotes.
Getting multiple quotes will save you a small fortune. It can be done in minutes. But I will get to than in a minute.
Auto insurance companies have different ways to measure how much risk you bring them. This means that the same insurance product can result in very different prices from the different insurance companies. I most cases the price difference is around $400 from the most expensive to the least expensive. In the extreme cases the difference can get close to $1000.
Another reason the quotes from companies can be so different is that they have other corporate strategies. One company may be more interested in home insurance, health insurance than auto insurance. This always results in them having higher prices than a company who’s number one strategy is auto insurance.

Nowadays it is much easier and faster to get multiple quotes. The reason: The Internet. Today you can get quotes from all the companies you normally would have to call in minutes. On top of that you can get quotes from the companies you didn’t even know existed. There are many insurance companies that do all their business online. This means they have lower costs than regular insurance companies and therefor can provide you with the same insurance at a lower price. Many of the bigger companies will offer you discounts of up to 50% if you only deal with them online.

2. Make Your Deductible higher
Many people have very low deductibles. They simple don’t want to pay any money if they get into an accident. This is understandable, but it is the wrong way to pay for auto insurance. When you choose a low deductible you automatically choose a high premium. Lets say you get into an accident where the damages are only around $1000 (Most accidents are small). If you have no deductible you don’t have to pay right? Wrong. When you tell your insurance company that you were in an accident and they have to pay $1000, they will automatically raise you insurance costs. So in the end you end up paying more than the $1000. If your deductible was higher, you would have to pay for the accident yourself (because it was a small accident that only had $1000 worth of damages), but the insurance company would not raise your insurance costs. The more you are willing to pay in the event of an accident the lower your premium will be.

3. No-Claims Record
If you have had insurance for a while, but have never made any claims, you have a perfect no-claims record. This record will give you big discounts. Insurance companies reward a no-claim record by taking up to 70% of the premium. This record is worth protecting. If you change insurance company, make sure they know about your no-claims record.
Most insurance companies have the option to add an “accident forgiveness” addendum to your policy. This means that if you cause an accident, they will not delete your perfect record. If you were rated with 6 stars, they might bring you down to 5 stars instead of setting you all the way back to zero stars. This will prevent your insurance cost from going up in the event of an accident. In most cases this “accident forgiveness” comes with a very reasonable fee.

4. Lower Your Cover
Most states have a minimum requirement of auto insurance. This minimum mandates that you are insured for any damage you cause other people or their property in the event of an accident. Most people also include protection against theft and fire to their own vehicles as well. I don’t recommend only having the liability coverage, but I also don’t recommend having too much cover. Having too much cover has the following drawbacks.
1. It costs a lot more than the minimum cover.
2. If your car gets destroyed the insurance company will only pay you what their think your car is worth. If your car is an older model and has low value, a comprehensive cover might not actually be worth paying extra. You might just end up paying for nothing.

5. Parking
If you live in an area with a history of higher insurance claims, the insurance premiums will be higher in that area. The history of higher claims could be the result of a higher crime-rate which makes the risk of your car getting stolen higher. This can be fixed. If you park your car in a garage or another secure location that will make the risk of theft lower, your insurance company will reduce the cost of your premium because you pose a smaller risk to them.

6. No High-Risk Drivers
You can have a number of people insured under the same policy. This is less expensive than having multiple insurances. If you add people the insurance company considers low-risk, your premium will not go up by much. If you add high-risk drives to your insurance policy you premiums will go up by a lot. If one of the drivers get into an accident in your car it will make your insurance cost more. This is also the case if you were not in the car at the time of the accident.
